The CEFR level starts at A1. However, learners who are not ready for A1, are a varied group, ranging from little or no prior knowledge to a smattering of English or some ‘tourist English.’
The A0 test uses a point scale allowing a granular assessment of a student’s progress. The score bands of the A0 are not yet measurable on the CEFR.
The scoring in the A0 test is aligned more closely to the Pearson Global Scale of English, which provides what has been described as ‘the most significant advance in performance –based approaches to language learning, teaching and assessment since the development of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR.)
